The aging process is not something that just
happens to you. To a surprising degree, attitude and behavior affect how rapidly you age
and the toll the years take on your energy and appearance. In fact, not only can you
significantly control the aging process, you also can reverse many of its effects.
Dr. Hans Selye has proven that the internal biological clock does not tick at a
predetermined rate. Instead, your body ages over time as certain systems lose efficiency
in response to external factors such as injury, disease, lack of exercise or poor diet.
Stress causes a specific series of reactions in your body, which can contribute to
aging by eroding the bodys reserves. Aging itself is simply the progressive loss of
the bodys capacity for performance. But, many of the influences on aging are within
your control. Research has now proven that the majority of a persons chances of
getting diseases and disabilities are due to lifestyle.
Fortunately, signs of premature aging almost always appear long before symptoms of
acute illness, allowing you adequate time to repair your body. Taking control of your life
is not difficult. It is just a matter of commitment and the desire to live a long,
fulfilled life.
