Understanding and Managing Your Pain

This is the introductory report to the Lifegevity Pain Management Program. This report provides a detailed review of understanding your pain, gaining an awareness of pain signals and how to develop a customized pain management plan.

Objectives:

  1. To understand and believe that pain can be managed, and that those who suffer from chronic pain can live an active and fulfilling life.
  2. To gain an understanding of the types of pain, causes of pain, its characteristics and how to evaluate and describe your pain to a healthcare professional.
  3. To gain a realization that pain has an emotional component and that your mind plays an important role in how you feel pain and respond to illness.
  4. To gain awareness of when pain signals an emergency and the appropriate actions to take.
  5. To learn how to develop a customized pain management plan that includes, among others, learning to eat right, exercise and decrease your stress levels, as well as becoming familiar with alternative methods for pain relief.
  6. To assist you in seeking additional support, guidance and information for your particular pain-related condition.
